Thank a Journalist Day

Journalism empowers

Communities

Our mission is to be a catalyst for positive discussion about the unquestionable importance of local, state, national, and international journalism in our communities and around the world.

Journalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of horror are still in the air.

How can I thank a journalist?

It can be as simple as posting on Facebook or Twitter:

  1. Create a post stating why you want to thank journalist.

  2. Tag any media organizations or specific journalists before you post!

  3. Use the hashtag “#thankajournalist” on all of your social media!

What else can I do?

Post a video, like the ones below, to Facebook or Twitter and explain why you think journalism is important to your community. Tag your friends and the media organization you wish to thank. Use the hashtag, #thankajournalist!

The Purpose

Journalists act as catalysts for change in their communities. They strengthen democracy and protect the First Amendment through the spread of factual information that is undeniable to each and every one of us.

Whether they’re breaking hard national news or featuring a hometown hero, it is indisputable that journalism is more important than ever before.

Thank a Journalist Day is March 13, 2019 and is a time to express our gratitude to the women and men who work hard to provide facts and information to the public.

Show your support for your community, the country, and the world. Thank a journalist.
